Less Trash – More Happy

I’m trying a lot of new things this year – living frugally, eating healthier, new boyfriend… my life looks a lot different than it did one year ago! (All of my reusable items below! Why don’t companies make these items in a PRETTY GREEN?!)31949607_10217564932101915_4571023527221657600_o

My boyfriend is a little bit of a hippy. He loves psychedelic clothing and makes it himself! Prefers to be barefoot wherever he goes and dislikes plastic (and the Man *eye roll*)

I’ve always been more of a “Basic Bitch” hand me my Starbucks cup, my comfy yoga pants, and I’m cocooned in my happy little bubble of ignorance.

I’m not happy with that. I see the videos on Facebook of the plastic epidemic… and I always thought, I can’t do anything to help with that! But I made minor changes – I bought reusable grocery bags before California started it’s ban. But I still wasn’t happy with it. Some days I would take out the trash and LOOK at all of the plastic packaging on EVERYTHING. Convenience has a steep price!!

I would see the articles and the videos of people cutting trash out of their lives, and couldn’t find a way to make it work for myself. But even my small part, can make a difference.

  1. I bought a travel mug for my coffee (stainless steel!!) – and stopped buying Starbucks because frankly – it’s too expensive EVERY DAMN DAY. Now, I allow myself one time a week. When my friend and I get our kids together; we grab a Starbucks, walk, and let the kids play.
  2. I bought a menstrual cup instead of buying tampons and pads monthly – so much trash! Have you ever thought about how much you’re using? It’s insane. It’s my first month with the menstrual cup – and I’m eager to see how it goes!
  3. I still use my grocery bags and I am trying to think of more ways to go green.
  4. I also am not eating out anymore, I won’t be responsible for plastic straws, forks, or napkins being thrown my way!
  5. I have been using a reusable water bottle for ten years because I drink a ton of water!
  6. One of my next steps – after my frugal month is over, is buying bar soap and shampoo!

What other ways have you cut back on your plastic use? Comment below!
